ANC Election Manifesto
Anyone reading about the launch of the ANC’s local government “manifesto” could be forgiven for feeling that they were caught in a time warp. All that seemed to have happened was that the 2000 edition was taken off the shelf, sexed-up a bit, given a bit more weight in the “fighting corruption” area and was then trumpeted by all and sundry. We even had a repeat of the 2000 launch with a Kwaito act ensuring that the mandatory thousands were in attendance. Witness highlights of the 2000 manifesto and how the made promises fared :
ANC-led local government will :
• Provide all residents with a free basic amount of water, electricity and other municipal services, so as to help the poor. Those who use more than the basic amounts will pay for the extra they use. WOOPS
• Strengthen the Masakhane campaign, with improved services for all to inculcate the culture of payment WOOPS
• Forge social partnerships in the fight against HIV/AIDS by accelerating the implementation of our "Together We Can" Campaign, with a focus on prevention, large-scale provision of condoms, development of treatment strategies, research and the creation of a supportive, sound and caring social environment WOOPS
• Shape plans and programmes to meet the needs of the aged and people living with disabilities. Services and buildings will be made increasingly accessible to themANC councillors will :
• Help you build ward committees as a key channel for participation and accountability WOOPS
• Work with communities to fight crime and strengthen solidarity WOOPS
• Eliminate corruption and nepotism from local government. (getting there.....slooooooooooowly)
You have to wonder if this time will be any different. Fool me one shame on you, fool me twice....?

Interesting look at the manifesto.. Its so sad that the voting public, well the majority of the voting public naively believe that by voting the anc into power they are guaranteeing themselves "a better future". In actual fact what they are really doing is entrusting corrupt government officials, who are in politics for the sole reason, to make as much money as fast as is possible and then piss off out of the country.
Why cant we all be a little more suspicious of those enormous wooden horses embedded in rhetoric used by our sa politicians..
Was a definate eye opener reading the articles that were linked to the "woops"..
