I'm a little worried - no, make that "severely vexed" - about the proposed culling of elephants in our parks. Eco-tourists are not going to like it. The reasons for culling them - destruction of the environment etc. - could as well be applied to humans. Not that I want humans to be culled, but they shouldn't be rewarded for crowding out other life-forms with child grants and the like. We humans should remember that we are part of a web of life and not the apex.

Woah there tiger! Fully agree with you on the need for sustainable growth in the human population, but to say "they shouldn't be rewarded for crowding out other life-forms with child grants and the like", is frankly way out of line.

Child grants are not only necessary, but they show that a country is prepared to take care of its future by protecting its most valuable commodity - its children.

That is not a "rewardng", it is common sense.
